From hesitation to movement
The 3 C's of proactive thinking
When your brain starts trying to eliminate uncertainty before you move, use this simple sequence to create enough space for the next best step.
Check it
Catch the thought without judging it. Notice what your brain is offering you before it quietly shapes your behavior.
Challenge it
Ask whether the thought is fact or fear, whether it helps you move forward, and what another way of seeing it could be.
Change it
Choose a thought that supports movement, not certainty. Try: “This is one step, not my final answer.”
Take a small action
Send the message, share the idea, follow up, or make the offer. Small actions are easier to repeat, and repetition builds momentum.
Proactive thinking is not about pretending you feel confident or forcing yourself to believe everything will work. It is about choosing thoughts that help you move, then pairing those thoughts with a small action that creates information, opportunity, or traction.
Why doing more does not always create traction
You can spend an hour tweaking, planning, researching, or half-starting a project and still finish the hour feeling stuck. That does not automatically mean you have a time-management problem or need a better planner.
Sometimes the real issue is a thought-behavior loop. A thought like “I do not want to waste time doing the wrong thing” sounds responsible, but it can keep you reacting to uncertainty instead of creating movement.
Reactive loop
Think → hesitate → take a tiny action → stop → think again → plan more → hesitate again.
Proactive loop
Notice the thought → loosen its grip → choose a movement-based thought → take the next small action → learn from what happens.
What proactive thinking sounds like
Proactive thinking sounds less like “I need to know this will work” and more like “I can create opportunities,” “I do not need to know everything before I take the next step,” or “movement will give me information.”
The shift matters because thoughts influence behavior. You do not need perfect confidence before action. You need a thought that makes action available.
How to use the 3 C's in real time
1. Check it
Catch the thought and name it without trying to fix it immediately. You might notice, “This probably will not work” or “No one is going to respond.” Awareness gives you a choice you did not have when the thought was running in the background.
2. Challenge it
Gently question the thought. Ask: Is this fact or fear? Is this helping me move forward? What would I think if I believed opportunities were available to me right now?
The goal is not to prove your brain wrong. It is to loosen the thought enough that another possibility can exist.
3. Change it
Choose a thought that leads to movement. “This is one step, not my final answer” or “Let me try this and see what happens” works because neither statement requires certainty.
4. Pair it with a small action
This is the piece that turns thought work into business growth. Send the message. Make the offer. Follow up. Share the idea. Keep the action small enough that you can actually do it.
Why small actions build confidence
Repeated movement builds trust. You see yourself take action, learn from what happens, and keep going even when the outcome is not guaranteed. Over time, that evidence becomes confidence.
Your business can start to feel more responsive and alive because you are no longer waiting for the perfect moment or hoping opportunities appear. You are creating them through action, movement, and showing up.
Your action step
Use the 3 C's one time this week:
- Catch one thought that is slowing you down.
- Challenge it with one useful question.
- Change it to a thought that supports movement.
- Take one small action: one message, one post, one follow-up, or one invitation.
Questions about proactive thinking in business
What is proactive thinking in business?
Proactive thinking means choosing thoughts that help you create movement and opportunities instead of waiting for certainty before you act.
What are Wendy Muzzy's 3 C's?
The 3 C's are Check it, Challenge it, and Change it. After shifting the thought, pair it with one small action so the mindset work creates real movement.
How is proactive thinking different from positive thinking?
Proactive thinking does not require pretending everything is going well. It focuses on thoughts that are believable enough to help you take the next useful action.
What if I still feel doubtful?
Doubt can still be present. The goal is not to eliminate it. The goal is to stop letting doubt make the decision about whether you move.
Why are small actions so important?
Small actions are easier to repeat. Repetition creates momentum, information, and evidence that you can trust yourself to keep moving even without a perfect plan.

Why movement matters more than certainty
Hey there, welcome to episode 65 of your fun and profitable online business. This is the podcast that helps you build your business in a way that feels as good as it looks. I’m Wendy Muzzy, and I help women entrepreneurs create simple systems and make intentional decisions so they can focus on what matters, take action, and build their own fun and profitable business. Now, over the next couple episodes, we’re talking about proactive abundance. And this week, we’re focusing on the proactive part. what you do, and how you create opportunities on purpose. Now, if you’ve ever felt like you’re doing a lot, but not seeing traction, or you’re waiting for things to click, this episode’s gonna give you a way to shift that without pretending like everything is perfect. And what’s really cool, this is one of those small shifts that changes how your entire business feels. All right, let’s get to it.
The thought-behavior loop behind feeling stuck
Now, first, I wanna paint a picture for you. I want you to imagine you’re sitting at your computer. You’ve got some time, and you want to work on your business. You might even have a few ideas floating around. And then your brain tells you, you don’t know if it’s going to work. Or it starts questioning if things are going to go anywhere. Or it tells you you need to figure it out completely before you do anything. Look, I’ve been there, and I totally get it. And in that moment, we don’t stop working. We’re still doing the things. Maybe we tweak something. Maybe we spend more time planning, or we half start a new project. And then the hour is gone. And at the end of it, we don’t feel quite right. Maybe we feel behind or even frustrated. Now, here’s what’s really important to understand in that space. This is not a time management issue. It’s not about discipline. It’s not even that you need a better planner. This is actually a thought behavior loop that you’re stuck in. And often, it’s rooted in scarcity thinking, especially when it comes to money and results in our business.
Reactive thinking versus proactive thinking
Now, we’re going to unpack more in scarcity next week, but here’s what it sounds like in real life. I don’t want to waste time by doing the wrong thing. Now, this thought seems responsible. It feels productive, like you’re being thoughtful and careful. But what it actually does is keep you stuck. because instead of creating movement, you’re reacting to uncertainty. You’re trying to eliminate risk before you take action. And this keeps you in this loop of thinking, hesitating, small action, stopping, thinking again, planning, hesitating, small action, thinking again. Now, let’s contrast that with proactive, abundant thinking. It sounds like I can create opportunities. I don’t need to know everything before I take the next step, or movement will give me information. Do you feel the difference there? One waits, it stalls, and one moves. And this is where results start to shift. Not because you became more confident overnight or you suddenly had the perfect plan, but because you’re thinking in a way that leads to different actions. And those actions are what actually creates traction.
Step 1: Check it
Let’s talk about how we actually shift this in real time. This is where we bring in the three C’s. Step one, the first C, check it. Start by catching the thought, noticing it, without judgment. It might sound like, this probably won’t work, or no one’s going to respond to this. Now, this really matters in the step. You’re not trying to stop the thought. You’re not trying to fix it right away. You’re just noticing what your brain’s offering you right now. Because most of the time, these thoughts are running quietly in the background, shaping your behavior without you ever realizing it.
Step 2: Challenge it
Step two, the second C, challenge it. Now we gently question it. Not in an aggressive, I’m wrong kind of way, but more like, is this helping me move forward? Here you can ask yourself if it’s fact or fear, or what’s another way to look at this? Or what would I think if I believed opportunities were available to me right now? And sometimes, this step is subtle. It’s not about flipping the thought completely. It’s about loosening its grip just enough that you can see another option. Right now, your brain is trying to keep you safe, and it’s done a great job to this point. But safe doesn’t always mean moving forward.
Step 3: Change it
Step three, the final C, change it. Now we choose a thought that leads to action. Not certainty, not perfection, just movement. Here are a couple ideas. This is one step, not my final answer. Or let me try this and see what happens. Feel the difference there? These thoughts don’t require you to be fully confident. They don’t require you to know the outcome. they just make it easier to take the next best step. And that’s all we need.
Step 4: Take one small action
Now that we’ve gone through the three Cs, it’s time to implement it. Step four, pair it with a small action. This piece is what makes it all click because thought work without action, it’s just staying in your head in a more pleasant way. And that doesn’t create a fun and profitable business. So once you’ve shifted the thought, take a small step. Send the message, share the idea, Follow up. Make the offer. Notice this doesn’t have to be big. In fact, it’s better if it’s small. Because small actions are easier to repeat. And repetition is what builds momentum. Simple, quick, doable. That’s what keeps you in motion.
Doubt does not have to make the decision
Now, I do want to be real here. Whenever you start using this, you will not eliminate doubt. Nor will you suddenly wake up and feel 100% confident every single day. But something important changes. Doubt stops being the thing that decides what you do. And it stops being the thing that decides what you don’t do. You spend less time stuck in, what is this? What should I do? And more time in the space of, let me just try and see what happens. Your business starts to feel more responsive, alive almost, just in motion. And this is where it starts to feel lighter because you’re not waiting for the perfect moment anymore. You’re not waiting for opportunities to suddenly arrive at your feet. You’re creating them through action, through movement, through showing up. And over time, this builds something really powerful. Trust, trust in yourself, trust that you can figure things out. Trust that even if something doesn’t work, you’ll learn from it and keep going. And that’s where confidence actually comes from, from seeing yourself do it over and over again.
Your action step and next move
All right, let’s get your action step for this week. I want you to use the three C’s one time this week, just once. Catch a thought, challenge it, and change it.
