The Most Freeing Truth in Business: It’s All Just an Experiment
Look, there’s no one right way to build a business.
I know—deep down, we’ve all craved that golden roadmap. The one perfect path that guarantees success if we just follow each step perfectly. But in reality? Business doesn’t work that way. And the sooner we embrace that, the more ease (and dare I say, fun) we can bring into how we work.
Let’s talk about one of the most freeing mindset shifts I’ve ever made in business: All business is an experiment.
Every Offer, Every Email, Every Launch… It’s Just a Test
When you treat your business like a series of experiments, everything gets easier. Decisions feel lighter. Perfectionism quiets down. And “failure”? That becomes just information—useful, valuable, actionable data.
After working in scientific research for 18 years, this mindset came naturally to me. In that world, data isn’t personal. It’s just results. You try something, you track what happens, and you tweak from there. Now I bring that same approach to my business—and teach it to my clients, too.
- A launch doesn’t go as planned? Cool. What did we learn?
- An email gets crickets? No big deal. Try a new subject line next week.
- A new offer flops? Tweak the messaging and test again.
The most successful entrepreneurs aren’t the ones who never make mistakes. They’re the ones who keep experimenting—and adjusting as they go.
Why Experimentation Removes the Pressure
Here’s what I want you to know: Small tweaks lead to big breakthroughs.
You don’t need a six-month plan before you try something new. You just need to start—test small, get some feedback, and adjust. That’s how progress is made.
When you treat decisions as experiments, you remove the emotional weight. You’re no longer attaching your worth to the outcome. You’re simply observing, learning, and moving forward. And that, my friend, is how you build momentum.
How to Make Experimenting a Habit in Your Business
If you want to see real results, experiment often. Here’s how to make that a sustainable habit:
- Adopt the phrase: “Let’s see what happens.” Instead of “What if this doesn’t work?”, get curious. Try a new offer. Test a bold opinion. Play with a new price. Every test brings clarity.
- Set a time frame and a measure. Don’t expect immediate feedback. Give it a runway.
- Trying a new offer? Give it 30 days.
- Testing a social media strategy? Watch engagement for 2–3 weeks.
- Launching a freebie? Track signups for the first 7 days.
- Detach from the outcome. Not every test will be a win—and that’s okay. If something works, do more of it. If something flops, try again. Ask your audience. Iterate. Move forward.
The Truth About Action (Spoiler: It Beats Overthinking Every Time)
Here’s your reminder: Action will always outperform overthinking.
Overthinking keeps us stuck. Action teaches us what works. Every so-called “mistake” is a step forward. We’re not failing—we’re learning.
And when you bring joy and curiosity into your decision-making? Game. Changer. Business gets to be fun.
Your Experiment for This Week
Ready to try this out? Your action step: Pick ONE thing to experiment with this week.
Just one. Here are a few ideas:
- Try a different platform (or post on social media if you’ve been avoiding it!).
- Change the call-to-action in your next email.
- Ask your audience a question through a poll or Q&A.
Track what happens. Take notes. Make adjustments. And remember—this is just data. No pressure, no perfectionism. Just progress.
