[0:06] Hey there, and welcome to episode 30 of Your Fun and Profitable Online Business, the podcast that helps you grow your business with intention and a whole lot of confetti. I’m your host, Wendy Muzzy, a certified money coach, business strategist, and your cheerleader for creating a business that feels good and makes money. Today, we’re talking about something that makes the biggest difference in your business, weekly planning. But it’s not the kind that fills your to-do list with 72 tasks and makes you feel behind before you even get out of bed. Nope. We’re talking about keeping it simple, strategic, and doable, because that’s how you actually hit your business goals. And here’s the headline. Each week, you only need to focus on three priorities. That’s it. Three clear priorities that move the needle forward. Keep you sane and let you end your week with, I did it, instead of, I’m never going to get any of this done.

Why Most Entrepreneurs Feel Busy but Not Productive

[0:59] All right, let’s get to it. Here’s the thing. Most entrepreneurs don’t struggle because they aren’t working hard enough. That’s actually quite the opposite. They struggle because they’re working on too many things at once. Tell me if this sounds familiar. You start your week with an organized list, but by the end of the week, you’ve put out so many fires, answered a ton of emails, scrolled through Instagram for inspiration, and maybe even checked a few of the easy things off. But those big, important projects, they’re still sitting there. And then the next week rolls back around, and guess what? The cycle starts all over. And this is why so many entrepreneurs feel stuck in busy but not growing mode. I’ve been there too. Early in my business, I used to start my day with a list of every single possible task I could think of. I love the check marks. I love marking things off the list. And my weeks look productive, but my results didn’t match. And that disconnect, that’s what pushed me to rethink everything.

The Simple Weekly Planning System That Actually Works

[2:05] The shift happened when I started setting just three priorities for the week. Now we’re talking about three things that if I finished them, I knew my week was successful, no matter what else happened.

Why Three Priorities Are Better Than a Long To-Do List

And here’s why this works. It helps you build momentum because you’re finishing things instead of juggling half-finished projects. It makes your weeks more predictable because you always know what success looks like. It forces you to focus on what actually matters instead of what’s just urgent or noisy or shiny. And here’s the spoiler, 99% of what feels urgent is not what creates growth. Your three priorities act like noise-canceling headphones in this really noisy world of business. And all of this is a bridge from the quarterly planning we talked about in episode 20. This makes it your daily reality. Your quarter gives you the big picture and your weeks are how you focus to make it happen.

How to Choose Your Three Weekly Priorities

[3:00] Here are the secrets to my weekly planning flow. Step one, as I’ve already shared, pick your three priorities. At the end of each week, that’s Thursday for me, but it could be Friday or Sunday or whatever it is, look at your quarterly plan and ask what three things will move me forward the most next week. Here’s the key. Don’t think about every task, just three priorities that matter. Here’s an example. Outline a new freebie, record a podcast episode, send a nurture email to my list. These are not three things like check email or post on Instagram. Those are all tasks. Your three priorities should be the things that will move your business forward centered around visibility, lead generation, sales, or client results. Here, I want you to think like a CEO, not an employee. You’re over here steering the ship, not scrubbing the decks. Stay focused.

Break Big Business Goals Into Manageable Actions

Step two, break them into manageable actions. Once you put your three priorities down, chunk them out. Big priorities only feel scary when they’re vague. The minute you slice them into smaller pieces, it’s like, oh, I can actually do this. Here’s my example. Record a podcast episode. I might break that into brainstorm the topic, create the outline, record the episode. And now you can spread these many actions across your week without feeling overwhelmed.

Align Your Business Plan With Your Real Life

[4:26] Step three, align it with your calendar. I want you to look at your actual life. Do you have client calls stacked on Tuesday? Kids home on Friday? A dentist appointment Wednesday morning? Whatever it is, plan this around your life. Look, your calendar is not a wish list. This is your reality check. And when you honor that, planning stops being a guilt trip and becomes a confidence boost. Keeps you from overbooking yourself and lets you hit the ground running at the start of your week instead of scrambling.

The Daily Reset Habit That Keeps You Focused

[4:57] Step four, do a quick daily reset. At the start of each day, ask yourself, what’s the next best action that moves my priorities forward? That’s it. You don’t need a full overhaul every day, just a quick check-in to stay on track. And here’s what happens when you do this. The start of your week feels less like chaos and more like momentum. And the end of your week is filled with you celebrating your progress instead of beating yourself up.

How Weekly Planning Builds Momentum and Consistency

You start trusting yourself because you’re not just busy, you’re actually building the business you want. And this confidence compounds. Each week you finish what you said you would, you train your brain to believe, I follow through, I do things. And that’s huge for long-term success. And maybe best of all, you get to enjoy your time off. Because let’s be honest, the point of owning your own business isn’t just the money, it’s the freedom. And freedom feels a heck of a lot better when you’re not dragging a to-do list around like a ball and chain.

[6:01] All right, let’s get to your action step. This week, I want you to set aside 15 minutes before you start next week to map out your three priorities. Write them down, stick them on a Post-it note, put them on your calendar. Whatever works for you, just name them and commit to follow through. Because three priorities beat 100 scatter tasks every single time. And you check off all three, throw some confetti, send me a message, let me know, I will celebrate you beyond belief. And even if it’s just a mental celebration, tell yourself you did it. This right here is the trick on how to train your brain to love progress.

How to Plan Your Week for Business Success

[6:41] All right, let’s recap how to set your week up for success. Number one, pick your three priorities. Number two, break them into manageable actions. Number three, align it with your life. And number four, do a quick daily reset. That’s it. That’s your weekly planning flow, simple, doable, and built for online business success.

Why Progress Beats Perfection in Business

And remember, this is about progress, not perfection. Even if you only get two of your three priorities done, you’re still miles ahead of trying to juggle all the things at all the times. Next week, we’re going to talk about batching, how to get more done in less time by grouping similar tasks together. If you’ve ever felt like switching around is stealing your focus, I get it, and you’ll want to tune in. And I have a tool to make this even easier. If you want it, go grab my free weekly planner. It’s a Google sheet that’s designed to help you track your three daily priorities so you can stay consistent all year long. Head over to wendymuzzy.com/planner to get it.
